NEW Route to Be Unveiled for 2010
We are working on a NEW ROUTE for 2010!
Every election, politicians utter the old phrase "Chicago is a city of neighborhoods." This year, you’ll experience many exciting and distinctive neighborhoods never before explored during Friends of the Parks’ L.A.T.E. Ride!
Your adventure will begin, as always, at Buckingham Fountain, built in 1927 to provide a monumental focal point in Grant Park while protecting breathtaking lakefront views. Route highlights we’re currently exploring include the South Loop, Chinatown, Greek Town, Chicago’s historic "Emerald Necklace" and much more! We’re looking at one of the largest parks on the North Side for our new rest stop location - plenty of open green space for food and fun - at the half-way mark along the course. You’ll finish your trek along the glorious lakefront trail, which offers stunning skyline views.
At 25 miles - all flat except for bridges - the route is doable for cyclists of all levels.
Most participants finish the ride in approximately 3 hours (although some finish in 2 hours and some take up to 5 hours). It's a non-competitive event, so ride at your own pace and enjoy the city. Refreshments and an optional All-You-Can-Eat breakfast will be available at Buckingham Fountain when you finish.
Registered riders will receive a Rider Guide in their goody bags. The guide contains the route map and other event details.
